SOMATIC PSYCHOTHERAPY

WHAT IS SOMATIC PSYCHOTHERAPY?

Somatic Psychotherapy is a body-oriented therapy approach with no touch involved.  Somatic Psychotherapy helps develop awareness and an understanding of the body's feedback system.

A somatic approach accelerates treatment efficacy because it allows us to access unconscious unresolved feelings on a rapid level which can typically take months with traditional talk therapy. The body communicates our unconscious feelings via physical symptoms such as irritability, tension, digestive difficulties, panic, worry, and sleep difficulties. The stress of living in a fast paced, overprogrammed and overstimulating culture has made it difficult for us to remain attuned to our body's feedback system. We are often numbed by overdoing or overworking that little time exists for us to listen to our body.

HOW DOES SOMATIC PSYCHOTHERAPY WORK?

By learning how to understand your body's feedback, through experiences such as posture, sensations, body temperature, and breath, you will gain an understanding of your underlying feelings. Reconnecting to yourself through an understanding of your body will provide you an unshakeable confidence and strength as you learn to make decisions from a gut intuitive level. I encourage you to consider this treatment approach if you have tried traditional talk therapy with limited results; this approach is a gentle and highly effective, with no touch involved.

Self-compassion is a way of emotionally recharging our batteries. Rather than becoming drained by helping others, self-compassion allows us to fill up our internal reserves, so that we have more to give to those who need us. - Kristin Neff
